Almost half of all people experiencing stress (48%) say that it has a negative impact on their personal and professional life. Many people work long hours and, as a result of modern technology, many people stay connected to their jobs hours after they have left the office for the day. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential to keeping yourself healthy as well as providing the best work at your job. Here are some things you can do to create and maintain a healthy balance:

Practice Time Management

  • Ultimately, creating and maintaining a healthy work-life balance will be the result of good time management skills
  • An important part of time management is prioritizing the tasks at hand
  • Take breaks; even 10-15 minutes here and there is beneficial
  • Schedules take the guesswork out of when you’ll be free and also help prevent procrastination
  • Leave the office on time

Exercise

Unplug from Technology

  • If you need to, turn off your cell phone or your computer
  • Late night technology use affects your ability to get a good night’s sleep
  • The light from the screen affects your melatonin production, keeping you awake longer
  • A phone near the bedside could interrupt your sleep with calls or notifications

Take a Vacation

  • Vacations can be an incredibly relaxing way to put everything on the back burner for a few days
  • Leave your work at the office
  • Several short vacations throughout the year are more beneficial than one long vacation
  • Don’t feel pressured to do or see everything; take it easy
  • Going on vacation with your family or your significant other is a good way to grow closer to them

Make sure to take care of yourself. If you are struggling with stress from work or at home, do not hesitate to seek help. You can read more about mental health at work on our blog.
