5 Ways to Stay Hydrated at Work

During the workday, it is important to stay hydrated especially if you work outside. According to recent studies, 75% of Americans are suffering from a chronic state of dehydration because they are not consuming the right amount of water to be truly hydrated. According to the Healthline, men should intake 3.7 liters of water per day and women should intake about 2.7 liters per day. Dehydration has been shown to not only affect your health but also your mood. Individuals who are dehydrated are more likely to be fatigued, irritable, and less productive. Here are a few tips to keep you hydrated throughout your workday:

  1. Bring water to work

Practice bringing a bottle of water to work with you every day. Throughout your workday, you can take sips out of your water bottle to keep yourself hydrated. You can also try infused water to add flavor.

  1. Skip the soda and processed snacks

Soda and processed snacks may feel satisfying at the moment but they will make you feel dehydrated in the long run. The sugars in these goods require a lot of water for the breakdown and metabolism of your body.

  1. Snack on fruits and veggies

Certain fruits and veggies contain high water content and are a great way to help you stay hydrated.  For example, watermelon and strawberries contain about 92 % water per volume, and cucumber and lettuce contain 96% water per volume. Try substituting your unhealthy snacks for fruits and veggies.

  1. Drink tea or coffee

If you feel like the taste of water is too bland, drink tea or coffee. Both drinks contain high water content and with the added bonus of caffeine, they will also help you keep alert at work. Be mindful of drinking too much coffee. One of the common side effects of coffee is crashing after too much caffeine intake.

  1. Use an app

There are plenty of apps that you can use to track your daily intake of water. Apps such as Daily Water, iDrated and Waterlogged are great tools that you can utilize to see how much water you are consuming each day and can help you stay hydrated.

Keeping hydrated throughout your workday is an essential part of keeping you healthy and productive.
