Hi this is Dr. Anthony Cheung, physical therapist at Nova Medical Centers. And here we have Dr. Peter de Smidt, physical therapist at Nova Medical Centers as well. And welcome to Stretching Like the Pros. Today we’ll be discussing the upcoming Mayweather and Pacquiao fight that everybody wants to see, so we’d like to simulate some exercises and stretches that may be beneficial for those who are more involved with the professional boxing activity. So, the first thing we’ll have is just using a simple dowel rod or broomstick to stretch out that anterior shoulder musculature and also incorporates more of a trunk rotation that we see a lot of our boxers perform in their movements.

Second, what we have is a ducking exercise. So maybe use that same rod and work on a ducking exercise. And what you can do is lower the height of that rod or increase it based on the individual’s difficulty.

The last one is obviously foot work is going to be a main component of boxing so we’re going to incorporate an agility ladder where multiple exercises can be used to vary up the planes of movement and things of that sort. For the agility ladder, what you’ll do is, if you’re going in more of a saddle movement, you can do two feet, two feet out, vary up the speed. You can also vary up the difficulty by going into a different plane of motion. More of a frontal plane and you can go side-to-side with your agility ladder as well.

Thank you for watching and stay tuned for more videos from Nova Physical Therapy.
