National Women’s Health Week is May 8 – 14

Healthy Women

Leading up to Mother’s Day, we want to remind you about National Women’s Health Week. This week is an an observance led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. The goal is to empower women to make their health a priority. The 17th annual National Women’s Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 8, and is celebrated through May 14, 2016.

It also serves as a time to help women understand what steps they can take to improve their health. That’s why, here at Nova Medical Centers, we are encouraging our employees to be active by offering a gym membership discount! Nova employees currently enrolled in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical plans, are automatically eligible for a discount Fitness Program Membership through their medical coverage with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

So, what kind of steps can you take for better health?

The Office on Women’s Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has a few tips:

1. Visit a doctor or nurse for a well-women visit (checkup) and preventative screenings)
2. Get active.
3. Eat Healthy
4. Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and stress management.
5. Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, texting while driving, and not wearing a seat belt or bicycle helmet.
