Nova Medical Centers partnered with Texas A&M International University’s Office of Career Services to conduct interviews with students via Skype.
The occupational medicine company, Nova Medical Centers, is exploring all options while searching for candidates to fill their open positions.
On November 5, Chase Foreman, a recruiter from Nova’s corporate office in Houston, Texas, spent much of his day Skyping with potential candidates on the campus of Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas.
“We wanted an opportunity to really connect with the academic community in Laredo,” Foreman said. “Our long term growth hinges on our ability to successfully appeal to recent and future graduates.”
With over 300 miles and 5 hours separating TAMIU from the recruiters, Skype seemed like a great solution to reach students.
The interviews took place in the Killam Library’s video conferencing room and lasted approximately 30 minutes each.
While Skype interviews are common for this recruiter, they weren’t for the University.
“The TAMIU Office of Career Services is always interested in bringing unique career opportunities to our student and alumni populations utilizing the most innovative mediums available,” Laura Martinez, Director of Employer Relations, said. ”In the past we have reached out to our students and alumni via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest. Today, we are proud to include Skype as an additional extension of our services, making internships and employment opportunities more conveniently accessible.”
“We’re seeking the best and brightest Laredo has to offer, so what better place to look?” Foreman said when asked why Nova is interested in seeking TAMIU students. “TAMIU obviously has a tremendous reputation and we’re thrilled to have established this relationship.”
Nova Medical Centers has recruited on college and university campuses before and it seems to be working well for them.
“College recruiting has been fantastic for us,” Jason Willis, Sales Department Hiring Manager with Nova Medical Centers, said. “Often, when you find students with strong schoolwork ethics, that transitions to a strong drive in the workplace.”
With the university motto: “What Do You Want Out of Life?”, Nova feels sure it will find ambitious candidates at TAMIU.
“We’re confident this event will mark the beginning of a long and rewarding partnership,” Foreman said. “Working with TAMIU faculty has been a wonderful experience and we’re excited for our future in Laredo!”
