A Team That Works Together Stays Together

We are taught to work in teams throughout our entire life. Whether it was in sports, mandatory school projects or working on a team at the workplace, the importance of teamwork was emphasized and cooperation was anticipated. Why do we hold such prominence to a seemingly simple expectation? Well, when done correctly, teamwork can create a work culture of support, constructiveness, satisfaction and open communication. All of which leads to happy, productive workers. Read on for ways to assist in promoting effective teamwork in the workplace:

  • Divide the work

A team of individuals working together is more effective than one single person stretching themselves to make sure an assignment is finished on time.  Dividing the work is the perfect opportunity to showcase workers talents and areas of expertise. Teamwork does not mean everyone does everything together. Roles and responsibility can be assigned according to the individual’s preferences or specialties.

  • Ask for help

It’s completely acceptable to seek others assistance, expertise or support when you need it. Coming together to take on a task is what teamwork is all about.

  • Brainstorm together

Ideas can become stale when working in solitary. Brainstorming together encourages creativity and creates a fun environment where employees can express themselves and receive feedback from colleagues.

  • Rally a common goal

Sharing a common goal brings people closer, even more so at the workplace. Determining what the grand goal is and how every team member can contribute to reaching it demonstrates that dependency and trust among colleagues exist.

  • Celebrate as a team

Teamwork begins with working together and is even more rewarding when you celebrate together. Appreciating your teammates work and showing gratitude towards everyone’s contributions goes a long way. Reaching milestones towards a goal or accomplishing the goal itself is definitely worth celebrating, so why not do it together?

All it takes to work as a team is a consistent effort and collaboration. It may take some time to create a plan to enforce teamwork, but the results are worth it. After all, what could be better than supportive, satisfied employees working together?

At Nova Medical Centers, we thrive off working as a team with every patient, partner, and team member. Tips for Winter Wellness

Cold weather and short days lead to long naps and endless movie marathons. Even those who are health-conscious may find themselves sitting indoors and gradually lessening their physical activity when winter approaches. However, maintaining your health throughout the entire year is important. The following health and wellness tips will help stay in good health during the winter:

  • Go for a walk even when the weather is really cold. Your body has to work overtime to get warm and you may burn up to 50% more calories than you would on the same walk in the summer.
  • Replace hot chocolate with a cup of herbal tea. Tea contains antioxidants and can build your immune system. Not only is it a healthier choice, but you even benefit from drinking it.
  • Winter is flu season and simply washing your hands is an effective way to prevent the spread of germs. This is also the perfect time to get your flu shot, which is the best combat method for the flu. Nova Medical Centers proudly provides vaccination services to assist in keeping you healthy.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day and using moisturizers to protect your skin. Cold air and indoor heaters can dry out your skin and cause skin irritation.
  • Buying indoor plants is an inexpensive way of providing moisture and oxygen to a drier atmosphere caused by heating. Plus, they’ll even give your home or office more life and brighten any cold, dull day.

Bundling up and staying inside is a natural reaction when winter comes along. Ensuring that you stay active and healthy during the winter keeps you from working twice as hard to stay healthy during the spring.  Simple habit changes can drastically positively impact your health.

6 tips for healthy holiday eating

The holiday season is in effect and we all know that means festive food overload. A lot of eating followed by weight gain is a typical pattern for most people. The good news is you don’t have to deprive yourself of your favorite holiday foods in order to maintain health during the last seasons of the year.  These 6 tips will help you indulge your favorite foods while reducing the impact of negative consequences:

  1. Portion Control

Portion size is important throughout the entire year, but especially during the holidays. Opportunities to eat festive snacks and desserts will happen often. Eating smaller portions and lessening how frequently you eat holiday treats can help gear you away from weight gain.

  1. Eat when you’re hungry

Holiday parties and potlucks happen recurrently and it’s important to indulge only when you’re hungry. Don’t treat yourself only because the food is available.

  1. Pace yourself

Eat slowly and savor every bite. Wait 10 minutes before going back for seconds to see if you really are still hungry.

  1. Do not skip meals throughout the day

Skipping meals throughout the day to prepare for a big holiday feast may lead to overeating. It is especially important to have breakfast, as research shows that those who eat this important morning meal tend to consume fewer calories throughout the day.

  1. Strategize

There are many strategies to help you avoid overeating. For instance, using a smaller plate allows you to serve yourself less food. Also, eating vegetables and a salad before entrees and desserts can help you become full faster and prevent you from overeating on foods with higher calories like desserts, pasta, and bread.

  1. Stay active

Chilly weather tends to give people the urge to want to stay indoors, but don’t worry there are plenty of indoor activities that allow you to get a workout done while staying warm. There are plenty of options to choose from like walking up and down the stairs at home or at the workplace, working out at the gym or even joining an indoor sports team like basketball.

Eating healthy and staying active during the holiday season is achievable by being mindful of your food intake and ensuring you are continuing your workout schedule.
